Out of hiding ...

This year, so far, has not been the best of years for me ... I spent the first three months mostly driving backwards and forwards to my parents, living out of a suitcase and coming home to work for at least part of the week.  Unfortunately my father passed away at the end of March after a traumatic and rapid decline ... dementia has to be one of the cruellest conditions known to man.  April disappeared in a fog ... and since then apart from the odd creative moments I have been in hiding!!

However, I managed to finish one very important project ... it involved die cutting over 2,000 solid diamonds and 2,000 outline diamonds!  It is the most important project that I have ever embarked on ... invitations for my beautiful daughter's wedding!  This is the invitation:

The colours are more vibrant in real life!!

The project is not finished yet as I need to create more diamonds for the evening invitations, the name plates, the table plan and anything else my daughter decides is essential!  As with most of us mums I always do as I'm told!

The wedding theme is geometric ... we are busy designing decorations for the venue ... this will involve 3D diamonds, pyramids, and cubes ... so far I have made 500!! (approximately 2 inches in size!) I'll share more about the decor after the event in November.

It seems strange to create a post about such sadness and such happiness together but I guess that is life ... full of extremes.

Enjoy!

  1. Your invitations are superb, I love the colours together. Look forward to seeing the decorations too.
I'm sorry to hear about your dad. My mum passed just before Christmas 19 years after being diagnosed with Alzheimers. It truly is the most cruel of illnesses. To be honest when mum went it was a blessing, not only for her but for dad too. You are right also about life going on. We were blessed with a baby grand daughter in May.I'm sure mum was around keeping an eye on things x

  2. You and your mum have both been wonderful - I hear about things like that! You have something great to look forward to - enjoy making the stationery etc - but I can't say I envy you all that die cutting.

  4. Hi Elaine! So good to see you back. I've been away visiting my sisters and am just now catching up. I'm very sorry to hear about your Dad and the struggles of the whole family dealing with dementia. You truly are experiencing the ol' saying "life goes on" as you work hard to bring your daughter's wedding vision and dreams come to life. The colors and design are spectacular and I can only imagine the drama of the venue when all the 3D geometric elements are in place! I can't wait to see pictures! I'm glad you have this creative project to keep you preoccupied, reflective, and busy ... happy busy is the best kind of busy!! Hugs, Darnell
