I really want to develop as a papercraft artist but seem to struggle with anything that isn't clean and simple. I'd love to create an art journal or a piece on canvas but every time I start I just seem to be faced with a blank page and inspiration making a fast exit out of the nearest open door or window! I thought if I began by creating more cards with layers and mixed media I might feel more confident but it doesn't seem to be working. Today's card has taken so much time and now I'm not sure that I even like the finished version! There are elements that I like but they haven't come together quite how I had imagined!
This is it:
I used:
Spellbinders Nestabilities
Woodware: Happy Birthday
Uniko: Pure Florals - Chrysanthemum
Brass Leaf Stencil
Distress Inks - Spiced Marmalade, Fired Brick
Versafine Onyx Black
I'm entering the following challenges:
TIME OUT #41 - Autumn ... the year's last, loveliest smile
Mixed Media Card Challenge
Enjoy!
Well I love the card Elaine! Have you tried looking at YouTube videos on mixed media? Buying a mixed media book? I still struggle sometimes to think of new ideas and I sometimes feel I'm making the same stuff so yes it's not easy. Just keep trying, buy a small journal and experiment in that.

Elaine, I think you are being tough on yourself, this turned out really well. You have the dimension, texture and embellishments there-all that make up a mixed media card but you still have a CAS touch to it. I am like you, I would like to be able to easily try other styles but it never seems to work out how I want and in the end why not stick with what makes us happy! Thanks for joining TO x
ReplyDeleteRelax Elaine, it's a beautiful card. I prefer CAS cards too, just make what makes you happy ;)Viv xx
ReplyDeleteLovely card! I love the string and stamped images. Thanks for playing along with us over at the Mixed Media Card Challenge.
ReplyDeleteGreat stenciling - love the stark contrast using the black on the white - pretty fiber looped behind your label! I started out as a CAS card artist as well - now I do both - CAS and Mixed Media - but I tend to be a little bit cleaner with my media than some others! You just need to find what pleases your own eye! Thanks for joining us in the Mixed Media Card Challenge - and keep at it!! Julia xx
ReplyDeleteYes I also often have an idea and the completed card doesn't look exactly as I planned but don't despair as this is also part of the learning process. I have found that things evolve slowly and definitely at their own pace. It helps me to look back at my work from years gone by and then I always realize just how far I have come. This card might not be what you intended it to be but it's lovely all the same. Thanks for playing at Time Out.
ReplyDeletevery nice fall card! thanks for joining us at MMCC :)
