One Layer Stencil ...

Good Evening ... popping in to share this:

A simple design - a stencilled image and a stamped sentiment!  This is a new technique for me ... I used alcohol inks and a stencil on my gelli printing plate.  I brayered two shades of pink alcohol ink onto the plate and then added the stencil.  I removed some of the ink from the open sections of the stencil and then added some yellow Memento ink, removed the stencil and allowed this to dry.  As it was drying I masked off a rectangle on my card base.  Once dry I added a thin layer of Buff Titanium acrylic paint, placed the card base over the top and rubbed the back to transfer the image.  I un-crossed my fingers and removed the card ... and what you see is the end result.  I added a simple sentiment and that was that!!
A one layer card created with a stencil!!!

I used:
Adirondack Alcohol Inks - Cranberry and Raspberry
Memento - Dandelion Ink
Buff Titanium Acrylic Paint
UNIKO - Chrysanthemum Stencil and Simple Said Stamp Set

I will be entering the following challenges:

Bloomtangled Twofer ...

Good evening ... quick post this evening to share two cards created using one die but two designs ...

If you have seen my earlier post featuring the Bloomtangled Cover Plate dies you will immediately see the difference that can be achieved just by changing the colour choices ... my earlier cards (here) were bright and used rainbow colours - these are far more subtle!!

I took three shades of pink and two of green card, stamped and white heat embossed them before cutting with the die.  I also die cut one from cream card and then set about the marathon task of paper piecing them back together!!  I love paper piecing I find it a relaxing activity but on this scale it is not something for the faint-hearted to do but the effect is well worth it (I think!).  I layered it onto kraft card and finally added a sentiment.

This one is far more simply and came together very quickly!  I trimmed the bottom from the die cut adhered it flat to a piece of cream card added the sentiment before adding it to the card base.

I used:
STAMPlorations - Bloomtangled #1 Cover Plate Die (if you decide to treat yourself to one of these dies you can get 20% off by using the following code STAMPGIRLELAINE)
Dark Room Door - Crackle Background Stamp
Stampin Up - Off The Grid Stamp
WOW White Embossing Powder

The reason for two cards in one post?  I'm joining in with the Twofer Card Challenge

As I used STAMPloration products I'm going to link up with this challenge:

Mixed Media Sunday ... Take two!

Happy Mother's Day to all celebrating today! ... I've had a lovely day having dinner cooked for me by my daughter ... the only thing missing was my son but popping to Edinburgh for the day is just not practical!!

The rest of the day I've been getting messy with paint, card and other crafty supplies ... I'm still on a mission to develop my mixed media skills. Today I've created another six inch square journal page ...

The background was created on a gelli printing plate with acrylic paints and stencils to this I added some stamping.  I also added some modeling paste through a stencil to add more texture and interest.  The detailed butterflies were die cut from another gelli print and the solid ones from some designer paper ... I adhered the two together just by the bodies so that the wings were free.  I stitched around the page to create a border and hopefully to pull the design together.  I stamped the words on a scrap of card.

I used:
Acrylic Paints
Versafine Onyx Black Ink
Deco Arts Modelling Paste
STAMPlorations Flutter Zen 2 Layering Dies
Distress Ink - Chipped Sapphire
Crafters Workshop Stencils

I've popped back this evening to link up this project to Calling all Sistahs challenge - this is not a challenge that I was aware of until the Calling All Sistahs team commented on my Instagram post which featured this project ... they suggested I might like to join the challenge so that is exactly what I'm doing.  I'll be adding the challenge to my list of ones that I should support ... Michele from CAS-ual Fridays Stamps organises the challenge to support Breast Cancer Awareness ... do check out the challenge and join in and help promote the awareness campaign.

Bloomtangled ...

I am so excited to be able to share these projects with you ... I've created two cards and a tag using the fabulous new Bloomtangled dies from STAMPlorations.  This post is part of the STAMPlorations Spring celebration - pop across to the blog and check out the inspiring projects from all of the Designers.

These dies are simply beautiful - I've had so much fun creating these projects - I've die cut the image and coloured the positive, coloured the negative and even used the "waste" by piecing it back together.  Are you confused? then take a look below.

Colouring the positive inside the die cut

Colouring the die cut (the outside)

Die cut from a gel print and the "waste" pieced back together - a fiddly technique but very satisfying!

Remember we are running a month long event inspired by Spring - don't miss out on the opportunity to join in as there are prizes to be won!

STAMPlorations Spring Love ...

Good afternoon!  That's another month gone!  What's happening over at STAMPlorations ... we continue to be doing things a little bit different!  Rather than all of our normal monthly challenges, there is just one challenge for you to join each month. This month's theme is Spring any type of project is welcome! (we’ll return to our regular programming in May).
No automatic alt text available.

I've created a very CAS card ... clean and fresh just like spring!!

I took a section of a print created with acrylic paints and stencils on a gelli plate and weaved through some washi tape (i made the script washi tape using stamps, tissue and double sided tape).  I then die cut and adhered the sentiment and hearts.

I used:

Here are the simple rules for the challenge:
*You may create any type of project -- cards (any style), mixed media, tags, layout, etc -- as long as it follows our theme
*STAMPlorations product is not required though we’d love to see it
*You may enter as many times as you want – as long as each project has its own blog post
*You must display the challenge graphic + link back to the challenge page to qualify for the prizes
*You must comment on the entry before yours in the gallery – lets spread the love

AAA Cards ... Ombre ...

Sunday morning and time for a new challenge at AAA Cards ... I hope you are ready to be inspired to join in.

My design involves ink blending, die cutting and a stamped sentiment:

I ink blended a panel of card before die cutting the bubbles - I used the 'waste' from the middle of the die and adhered them to a rectangle.  This was then adhered using foam tape to add some dimension.  Added the white heat embossed sentiment and added the panel to the card base.

I used:
Sizzix - Bright Bubbles die
STAMPlorations Crazy Double Running Stitch Rectangles
UNIKO Simply Said stamp set
Distress Inks - Squeezed lemonade, Spiced Marmalade, Carved Pumpkin, Candied Apple.

I hope you will pop across to AAA Cards and join in with the challenge.

Enjoy!

Snow Day Fun too ...

Back again ...my first post of the day was very CAS - something that cannot be said about this post.  This time is all about mixed media and lots of colour ... this is my first (and only) completed art journal page!!  I've mentioned before that I want to do more mixed media projects up until today I've done some tags and ATCs but never an art journal page.  If I'm totally honest I have started a number of pages but have lacked the inspiration and skill to complete them.

I began by cutting a six inch square from a print made on a gel printing plate by layering acrylic paints through a variety of stencils.  I added modelling paste through a stencil and some background stamping,  I die cut the flowers from black card.  The words were stamped on a scrap from another print, edge with distress ink and added to the page.  Finally, I doodled a border to try and pull the design together.

I used:
Gelli Printing Plate
A mix of acrylic paints.
A selection of stencils and mark making tools to create the background.
Decoarts Modelling Paste
Tim Holtz Wildflowers dies.
Versafine Onyx Black Ink
Pilot V Ball Grip black pen

Snow Day Fun ...

Snow, snow, snow ... is the only topic of conversation around the UK at the moment ... it seems to have brought the country to a virtual standstill ... but there is always an upside ... our school is closed so I get a three day weekend!!  So I have spent the day crafting ... making cards, making books and even creating an art journal page!!!

It seemed only right to share some of my hard work with you this evening ...

I was inspired by the sketch at CAS Colours & Sketches #261

... and by the current challenge at TIME OUT Challenges #104

A bold sentiment heat embossed on vellum and adhered to a vibrant panel created on my gelli printing plate. Both elements have been adhered to the card base with foam tape for added dimension.

Enjoy!
