As each new year begins I always reflect on the year just gone ... the highs and the lows! There were not many highs in 2020 but this is one of them ... I was chosen as a winner of the October challenge at the CAS Mix Up card and I was invited to be a guest designer!!
How exciting is that!!! The details for this month's challenge:
It was quite difficult to photograph all of the detail but you can at least see the splatters! I created some coloured card stock using acrylic paints, stencils and my gelli plate (one of my favourite techniques) to die cut the Tim Holtz splatter from to form the basis for the numbers. I then stamped the background with different splatter stamps and distress inks focussing the activity to the middle of the card base. I die cut the numbers 3 or 4 times from card stock before stacking and then gluing together to give more dimension. I fussed around for quite some time deciding where to place the 'happy' but other than that the design came together quite quickly!
I hope I have inspired you to join in with the challenge ... if you need more inspiration then remember to check out the CAS Mix Up blog to see the design team makes and for links to more information about creating and using splatters. I really look forward to seeing your projects.

Well, this is such an impressive guest designer card, well done. I love it and share your fear of random and uncontrolled splatters but I have never thought to invest in splatter stamps. I have missed a trick there. I love all your little bits of detail and how you have kept it CAS by concentrating it in the centre of the card, excellent xx
ReplyDeleteWonderful card to welcome the New Year, Elaine! LOVE the colours of your controlled splatter what really show off your number die-cuts. Thanks so much for being our Guest Designer this month! xx
ReplyDeleteDelighted to have you as our Guest Designer for our very first challenge of the year Elaine.
ReplyDeleteLove this card - perfect!
Ahh, I was wondering how you made such perfect splatters! These are my favorite kind and I do have a couple of splatter stamps, too. Beautiful simplicity. Love the colors. Hoping for a happier and healthier new year for everyone!
ReplyDeleteThis is how 2021 should be...clean and simple. The colors you chose couldn't be better. I honestly had not thought to use stamps (duh!) but they're are ideal for your card. And the sentiment treatment is worth every second you spent on it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to welcome in the new year, Elaine! Love your controlled splatter and I have to admit splattering with a brush is pretty scary! Your colors are so vibrant and the stacked numbers with the contrasting die cut on top are amazing! Thanks for joining our team as guest designer this month!
ReplyDeleteLove this design Elaine, beautifilly CAS but has such an impact. Great idea to use the spatter stamp too, think I might have one of those! Happy New Year, Cathy x
ReplyDeleteOMG...Loving your Stunning Clean and Simple design, Elaine:-) Your stamped splatters turned out perfectly..hee, hee...that is the point, right?!? I have several splatter stamps, but did not think to use them. I have been having good luck using a black or white Posca acrylic pen and taping the end with my bone folder. Love your die cut and stacked 2021, colors and where you placed your die cut Happy and tiny new year. All perfectly designed. So pleased you are joining us this month as our Guest Designer. Love and Hugs and Happy Creative New Year, my friend.
