LIM Guest Designer ...

I am excited and honoured to have been asked by Chrissie - "Less is More" - to be a Guest Designer this weekend for the last challenge of the month.  As always I jumped in with both feet without knowing details about the theme/topic/recipe of the challenge and said "Yes, of course I would love to be a Guest Designer".  Imagine my surprise (delight) when Chrissie told me that the recipe is Spray Mists - what is one of the items my craft stash is lacking?  Yes, you've guessed - Spray Mists!!

So the process began by creating a spray (or two!).  I took some Salty Ocean Distress ink added some perfect pearls and some water - it took quite a few attempts before I was 'happy' with the intensity of the colour.  It then took quite a lot of card to work out how to get the spray effect that looked right - enough to look like spray but not too much to cove the card!  This is it:

I used the spray to colour a panel of card, using a die cut butterfly as a stencil.  I trimmed the panel and sprayed the die cut and then heat embossed it with clear embossing powder.  I adhered the panel to a square card before adding the butterfly (gluing only the body to add dimension) and finished by stamping a sentiment with the same Salty Ocean Distress Ink.

Ingredients include:
Perfect Pearls
Salty Ocean Distress Ink
Simon Says Stamp Handwritten Borders
Sweet Dixie Butterfly Die
Crafter's Companion Water Colour Card.

  1. A well deserved Guest Designer appearance Elaine, your work is always perfection. How enterprising of you to make your own spray mist in this way... true inspiration and a superb card!
    Thank you so much!
    Chrissie xx

    1. Don't forget to take your Guest Designer's badge from the page at the top of the LIM blog Elaine!
      Richly deserved!

  2. It's lovely to have you with us this week, Elaine, and what a stunner. You've got the intensity of the blue just right, and I love your design. I struggled too as I only have one spray and it's just a pearl colour, no re-inkers or anything like that...more to add to the wishlist! x

  3. Congratulations on your Guest Designer spot on the LIM challenge. What a beautiful, striking card! I love the blue and white and what a clever way to make your own spray ink. xx

  4. It's great to have you guest designing with us this week Elaine!
Your cards are always SENSATIONAL and full of inspiration. I love how you made the mists - me too! Also lacking in that department! You've rocked it though! Fantastic card and thanks so much for joining us.
    Sarah xx

  9. Your homemade spray is marvelous, Elaine! I love your card!! I'm so thrilled for you to be invited to be the Guest Designer at LIM!! Hugs, Darnell

  10. Congratulations on your GD spot! Love your inspiration piece this week, great colour, it's looks so clean and fresh. xx

  11. Hi Elaine, I meant to reply to you about how I manage to capture the shimmer in my photographs. The answer is.....luck! I don't have any fancy camera or photo light box etc. I take all my card photos on my Samsung mobile phone, the quality is better than my Nikon point and shoot. The cards are placed on my cupboard in the lounge and I use a daylight lamp most of the time. After lots of twiddling and being on my knees at all sorts of angles, I just click away.. and tadaaa, we have shimmer! lol xx

Thank you for visiting my blog. I really appreciate your comments.
